Breast Milk Storage Bags Reviews
Nurture Right Breastmilk Storage Bags review
These might be the only breast milk storage bags that don’t have that strong plastic smell on them. Their Amazon reviews are just crazy (rarely does a product come this highly recommended), and I happen to share that opinion. They’re the absolute best breast milk storage bags you can buy.
These bags come with a money back guarantee, and are pre-sterilized and BRA and Latex free (just like all the storage bags we recommend). What makes these bags unique is their Easy Store and Easy Pour design, which, along with the fact that they’re 100% leak-proof and durable, gives them the number one spot.
They’re super convenient, can be laid flat in a freezer and are quite thick. The zip lock feature works flawlessly and they work just the way you’d expect from a product with these reviews.
Bonafide Baby BPA/BPS-Free Breast Milk Storage Bags (110-count) Review
With their new design, Bonafide is giving customers 110 bags, instead of the ordinary 50 or 100 bag packages. They come with a free of charge non-toxic marker that let’s you easily track freshness. They’re definitely delivering more, and it’s not on the expense of reducing quality or increasing safety risks – which most companies somehow mess up.
While other brands are often reported to have issues with leakage (usually due to poor manufacturing) or spilling (poor product design), that doesn’t happen much, if at all, with these bags.
These are undoubtedly some of the best breast milk bags you can buy. It’s important to say that some breastfeeding women don’t like pumping directly into the bag – which is a huge plus for these bags, because they’re great at freezing smaller quantities of milk (if you are transferring leftover milk from a bottle, let’s say) compared to the Lansinoh bags we reviewed. The Medela bags are also nice and thick, but they’re not getting a spot in our top three breast milk storage bags because they’re a little too expensive.
If you do decide to use these bags, you might want to look into buying an electric breast pump as well. Just make sure you know how to use the breast pads properly.
Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags (50 and 100-count) Review
Although they’re one of the more popular breast milk storage bag brands out there, Lansinoh has lately been doing “improvements” they probably shouldn’t have. The older bags were designed differently and more reliable, with 5-star reviews all around. These are definitely a bit lower quality than both the Nurture Right breast milk storage bags and Bonafide. However, with the new design, a couple buyers have complained that the bags don’t really stand up right, and how the fact that you now have to tear the top off can be an issue.
However, this company that knows what they’re doing and I wouldn’t be too worried about the new design changes (which were probably done to save the company costs and lower the price of the bags). They’re quite affordable and reliable, and that earns them the third position from all the bags we reviewed.
Evenflo Breast milk Storage Bags Review
Moving on to the bags that didn’t make my top three, but are worth mentioning. The Evenflo Breast Milk Storage Bags are made from high quality military grade material, and come with wide seals on the side. They looks quite nice, but are one of the thinner bags. This may or may not be convenient to you, considering it will let the breast milk freeze faster, although it may cause more spills.
Although these bags only come 40 in a pack, they are slightly cheaper. Might be worth considering, especially if budget is a problem. These milk bags can collect up to five ounces of breastmilk.
Tommee Tippee Breast Milk Storage Bags Review
These might seem cheaper at first, although they in packs of 35, making them more expensive than the Nurture Right bags (which are our top choice).
They are pre-sterilized and work great with Pump and Go pouches. They are really sensitive, and eliminate excess air flow. They are all PVC, phthalate and BPA-free, and dishwasher safe.
With these bags and the Pump and Go process, there’s no need to transfer milk at any stage of the process, which for some women is more convenient.
Pigeon Breast milk Storage Bags Review
These are good, but expensive. They only come in packs of 25, and almost the same price as the Nurture Right and Bonadife breast milk storage bags, so they won’t be making our top three unless Pigeon decides to lower their price soon.
However, the bags themselves are quite nice. Self standing, and zipper-sealed, these bags WILL give your breast milk the protection it needs – and also quite comfortable on the nipples, some women state.
The Pigeon breast milk storage bags we got for review worked great and the few people that do use them usually don’t go back to another brand. Again though, the price is a huge minus.
Medela Breast milk Storage Bags Review (Medela Review)
The Medela breast milk storage bags are one of the better ones. They’re compatible with all Medela breast pumps, and come with two easy connect adapters that connect to the breast shield.
They have a protective oxygen barrier, and are completely safe to use. As with the rest of the bags we recommend, they’re BPA-free.
They’re reasonable priced, and come in packs of 20 and 50. If you can afford it, it might be worth getting the 20 count pack along with another brand so you can test the difference and see which are more convenient to you.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can you reuse breast milk storage bags?
Short answer – no. Storage bags are pre-sterilized and as such, not reusable (because they won’t be sterile once they’ve been used). However, they’re quite affordable and come in bulk, so that shouldn’t be an issue. You also don’t have to worry about cleaning them.
How many breast milk storage bags do you need?
It really depends on your situation. Some people only use 50 bags in a year, while other often use one to two bags per day, even. You should buy at least 50 – 100 of a recommended brand, and then get more as you go, if needed.
Which are the best breast milk storage bags for freezer?
All storage bags we recommend are for freezers, and as you already saw in the comparison chart above, our #1 pick are the Nature Right Breast Milk Storage Bags.
Do breast milk storage bags expire?
If you follow the packaging guidelines and keep the breast milk storage bags unopened and in a dry environment, they should last indefinitely since they don’t have an expiration. So, if you’re planning to have more kids, might as well buy more 🙂
Should I buy bulk breast milk storage bags?
Absolutely. As we already stated, these are pre-sterilized and one storage bag can only be used ones. Buying them in bulk is safe and necessary.
Do I need a double electric breast pump?
You might need a double electric breast pump, so make sure you consult a specialist if unsure, since they’re isn’t a one-fits-all answer to this question.
Can I re-freeze breastmilk?
Once you’ve thawed breast milk, make sure you don’t refreeze it! Using the fridge for more than one freeze can mess with the quality of the milk and is dangerous!
Should I consult my doctor before buying storage bags?
You might want to see your doctor or a lactation consultant before buying any type of bags. Storing breast milk can lead to its contamination if not done right, so if you aren’t sure what you’re doing you should definitely see a specialist.
